Piteadie House was originally an early Georgian farmhouse built of stone under a pitched slate roof. Pitteadie Castle occupies an east facing slope at the edge of the hills south-west of Kirkcaldy and overlooks the source of a minor burn now emptying into the Tyrie Burn. The ground to the west rises some 2o or so metres, so the site was chosen for the proximity of the water source rather than for defensive strength or strategic purpose. The castle is a free-standing, rubble-built oblong tower, measuring 33 1/2' by 27 1/2'. It was originally built probably towards the end of the 15th century, but considerably altered two centuries later. Description The monument is the remains of Piteadie Castle, a late medieval tower house. The castle survives as a rectangular tower with a later stair tower which projects from the northeast elevation.
